Early Life[]

Born in the year TA 2898 of the late-Third Age, Bard Bowman was a human man who grew up in Esgaroth, one of the settlements of Rhovanion. Related to Girion, he was the son of Harbard and Helga, who both died when he was still an infant. His uncle Girnir took care of him. While growing up with his uncle, Bard was fascinated of listening to his uncle's stories, in which he was given the last Black Arrow that his grandfather failed to use in slaying the dragon Smaug during the terrible firestorm. During the time of Calamar Moneybags' rule in Esgaroth, Bard grew to despise him due to his corruption and thirst for gold. He eventually married a young woman named Ingrid, and the two would have three children named Bain, Sigrid, and Tilda. However, his wife died from an unknown cause, and Bard deeply mourned her and never remarried.

Meeting the Dwarves[]

Throughout the years, Bard spent most of his life working as a bargemen and his task was bring in wine barrels that were been delivered from the Woodland Realm. While his children remained at home and were busy doing their chores during the beginning of winter, Bard ventured across the lake to await several wine barrels that been delivered from Thranduil Oropherion. However, that was when he noticed that each and every barrel had dwarves. Bard confronts the Dwarves upon finding them on the river bank, and threatens them not to make a move. That was when Balin the dwarf persuades him to smuggle the company into Esgaroth unseen, and was given a promise to be paid double for his usual barge fare. Bard is hesitant at first, not wanting Thranduil to be angry at Lake-town, but eventually smuggles the Company.
